Adam and Peter:
We at Macy's were disappointed to read about your experience with our Wedding & Gift Registry at the Savannah store. Macy's welcomes all couples, and our Registry has actively included same-gender weddings for many years. We apologize for the way you were treated. Please be assured that Macy's provides training for all associates nationwide on diversity and inclusion. Our company is proud of its 100 rating on the Corporate Equality Index compiled by the Human Rights Campaign. Among our accomplishments, Macy's was among the first retailing companies to offer domestic partner benefits. We will be following up with our Savannah store to ensure all of our couples are treated with respect, as well as a high level of service. We thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. If you have further questions about Macy's Wedding and Gift Registry, please feel free to call us toll-free at 1-800-568-8865.
Please accept our best wishes for a memorable wedding.

**UPDATE**
I just got the following update from Macy's. They've been trying to get in touch with us and well call them tomorrow!
Adam, I just got your note on the unfortunate situation that happened in
my store during your registration experience. I've tried to call you and I
have been unable to leave a message. Please, call me (number redacted) so we
can discuss how I have handled the situation. I look forward to hearing
from you soon.

I don't know how I feel about this letter. Part of me thinks they should have given you a giftcard or something, but then that would be kind of like buying you off. Torn about their reaction. Seems very 'canned' to me.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Aubrey. I feel like they obviously have some internal issues despite their public rating on the equality index. It's great that they endorse & encourage same-sex couples to use their registry, but if these couples are not treated with the same respect as a heterosexual couple would be, then what's the point? Again, so sorry that you were put in this situation to begin with.
